Búzios before glamour

Few know that Búzios was a simple fishing village living from artisanal fishing and local commerce. Tourism changed the city starting from the 1960s.

Brigitte Bardot

She came fleeing the press and was enchanted. Her presence attracted international attention. The city began to receive artists, intellectuals and foreigners. The statue on Orla Bardot bears her name.

Artisanal fishing

It still remains passing through generations with old wooden boats and handmade nets. The statue of the 3 fishermen on Orla Bardot was elected the best interactive art in the world in 2015.

Buzios wins its fourth Blue Flag and becomes the only municipality in Rio de Janeiro with international recognition for sustainability and responsible tourism on its beaches.

In season 25/26, Buzios earned its fourth Blue Flag, recognizing clean beaches, environmental management, safety and responsible tourism in Forno, Tucuns, Azeda and Jose Goncalves.

Origin of the name Búzios

The name "Armação dos Búzios" comes from the ancient whale fishing and hunting structures, called "armações", common in the region during the colonial period. Meanwhile, "búzios" refers to the large amount of seashells found on the beaches, which marked the identity of the place.
